This 18th-century Georgian low linen press cupboard is formed from dark brown oak with brass hardware. The upper section consists of two cupboard doors ornamented with arched fielded panels, opening to a spacious shelf within. Below, the base contains four drawers fitted with later replacement swan-neck brass drop handles, resting upon a plinth base with bracket feet and a historical repair to the plinth. The dark timber exhibits age-related wear throughout its surfaces. Standing 113 cm high, 142 cm wide and 50 cm deep, the unit provides ample storage capacity for domestic settings. In a contemporary home, this traditional piece suits placement in a kitchen, a hallway, a bathroom or on a landing area at the top of the stairs, bringing historic English country house style to daily living spaces while accommodating household linens or clothing items.

A linen press is a traditional storage cupboard designed in the 18th century primarily for storing household linens, sheets, and textiles, typically featuring a upper cupboard section over a base of drawers.

Georgian linen presses were crafted using solid hardwoods like English oak, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon frames, and hand-planed raised or fielded panel doors.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-hewn back panels, irregular saw marks, hand-forged iron or cast brass hardware, and uneven shrinkage across solid wood boards consistent with age.

Position the cupboard as a grounding focal point against light or neutral walls, pairing dark timber with modern artwork, neutral textured ceramics, and balanced ambient lighting.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish once or twice a year to protect the timber patination and keep the wood hydrated.
