This Regency-style waterfall bookcase dates from 1920 and takes the form of a freestanding open-shelf cabinet in a rich brown mahogany with contrasting rosewood crossbanding and boxwood line inlays. The upper section contains four graduated open shelves enclosed by a low gallery rail at the top, while the lower section houses a bow-front mahogany-lined drawer. Brass swan-neck carrying handles are mounted to each side panel, and circular brass pull handles adorn the drawer face. The piece is elevated on turned tapered wooden legs fitted with brass castors. Measuring 108 cm high, 68 cm wide and 30 cm deep, the unit provides compact open storage for books or decorative objects. It suits placement in a living room, study or hallway as a decorative display and storage fixture.

A waterfall bookcase is an open shelving unit featuring tiers that graduate in depth from top to bottom, creating a sloped profile typical of late Georgian and Regency furniture designs.

Traditional examples are constructed using hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, frequently incorporating boxwood or satinwood inlay, brass carrying handles, and turned feet.

Authentic pieces usually display hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, original cast brass hardware, natural age-related patination on exposed timber surfaces, and graduated shelf proportions.

Position the piece in an entryway or study, filling the graduated tiers with a combination of hardback books, studio ceramics, and small framed artwork to balance traditional craftsmanship with modern decor.

Dust surfaces regularly using a clean microfibre cloth and apply a thin layer of natural beeswax polish along the grain annually, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
