Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George I oak close stool is an 18th-century item of furniture created during the reign of King George I (17141727). Designed as a decorative chest or cabinet, it originally enclosed a ceramic or pewter chamber pot prior to the advent of indoor plumbing.

These items were typically constructed from solid native timbers such as English oak or walnut. High-grade joinery featured mortise and tenon joints, hand-planed surfaces, turned timber feet, and cast brass escutcheon plates or handles.

Authentic pieces from the George I period exhibit hand-sawn timber marks, thick oak drawer or panel linings, hand-cut dovetail joints, and naturally aged surface patina. Hardware often shows hand-hammered brass construction and period-correct oxidisation around keyholes and fixings.

In modern interior schemes, a close stool is frequently repurposed as an occasional side table or a bedside cabinet. Its compact footprint and flat top surface make it suitable for supporting lamps, books, or small decorative items.

Maintain oak furniture by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent drying, cracking, and excessive fading.
