Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

English art pottery from this period is characterised by hand-thrown earthenware, slip-trailed decoration known as tubelining, and rich polychrome glazes. Developed under the Arts and Crafts movement, these pieces emphasise individual craftsmanship and organic, stylized floral motifs.

Tubelining involves piping liquid clay slip through a glass tube onto the unfired earthenware body to create raised outlines. Once dry, coloured glazes are applied by hand within the raised borders before the vessel undergoes high-temperature kiln firing.

Authentic pieces generally feature impressed factory marks, stamped numerals, or handwritten artist signatures and initials on the underside base. Examining the relief texture of the tubelined design and the characteristics of the glaze crazing also helps verify authenticity.

Position floral art ceramics as standalone accent pieces on mantelpieces, sideboards, or within open shelving units to highlight their rich colour palette. Pairing them with understated modern materials like natural timber or matte stone creates an effective visual balance.

Dust gently with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and avoid immersion in water, as moisture can enter fine glaze cracks and cause discolouration. Do not use abrasive chemical cleaners or polish on hand-painted earthenware surfaces.
