The George IV period spans from 1820 to 1830, characterised by a transition from neoclassical restraint towards heavier, more ornate designs influenced by the expanding industrial techniques of the era.

Coloured glass was created by adding metallic oxides, such as manganese or gold, to the molten glass batch to achieve deep hues like amethyst, cobalt blue, and emerald green.

Authentic pieces often exhibit pontil marks on the base, minor surface irregularities, wear consistent with age, and a heavier lead content characteristic of traditional flint glass.

Antique coloured glassware can be displayed on open shelving or mantels to catch the light, adding rich colour accents and historic texture to modern minimalist or eclectic spaces.

Antique glass should be washed by hand in lukewarm water using a mild, non-abrasive detergent, and dried carefully with a lint-free cloth to avoid damaging the delicate surface.
