This antique Queen Anne brass candlestick, dating from around 1700, is an English country house object designed with traditional form and classical proportion. Cast in a warm gold-toned metal with a polished metallic finish, the piece displays visible surface wear, tarnishing, and minor patination consistent with age. The construction comprises a multi-knopped baluster stem with precise turned rings and mouldings, rising from a stepped square base featuring distinct cut corners and scalloped indentations. At the top, a small drip pan with an undulating scalloped rim surrounds the candle socket. The candlestick measures 20 cm high, 10 cm wide, and 10 cm deep. Placed within a modern interior, this accessory suits display on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or occasional table, where the golden brass catches the ambient light. The compact footprint allows easy placement in a sitting room, study, or hallway, adding traditional character to both period settings and contemporary decorative schemes.

Queen Anne brass candlesticks typically date from the early 18th century and are characterised by turned baluster stems, octagonal or square bases with cut corners, and a focus on balanced proportion over surface ornamentation.

During this era, brass candlesticks were cast in two vertical halves using sand moulds, then joined together and finished on a lathe, often leaving visible seam lines or core casting marks internally.

Authentic period pieces display slight hand-finished asymmetries, evidence of lathe turning on the underside, heavy weight relative to size, and natural wear patterns on high-contact areas.

They can be displayed on a fireplace mantelpiece, arranged in groups along a dining table, or paired with contemporary ceramics on a sideboard to create subtle textural contrast.

To preserve the historical patina, dust regularly with a soft cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners, using a gentle specialist metal polish sparingly only when necessary.
