Description

A stunning pair of antique satin wood bedside chests. They were made in France, they date from around the 1900-1920 period.

The quality is outstanding, they are a useful and impressive size, with plenty of storage space. The satin wood has a gorgeous colour tone and lovely silky grain patterns. There is a single drawer and the top of each cabinet, the two drawers below are actually dummy drawers which open to reveal cabinet spaces. The drawer fronts and top edges have high quality brass borders, there are also beautifully intricate brass handles. They stand on fluted legs and they have useful pull out tray slide shelves that pull out from beneath the top.

We have had them re-polished, the condition is superb for their age.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Satinwood gained immense popularity during the late 18th century, particularly within neoclassical and Regency furniture design, prized for its luminous, golden grain and smooth texture.

These pieces typically feature fine satinwood veneers laid over a secondary timber carcass such as pine or oak, joined using traditional dovetail construction on the drawers and accented with brass or gilt mounts.

Authenticity is determined by examining hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage patterns, the presence of historical secondary woods, and the natural oxidisation and patina of the satinwood finish.

Pairing these golden timber chests with neutral walls, minimalist lighting, and contemporary textiles creates a balanced contrast that highlights the rich grain and warm tone of the wood.

Maintain satinwood furniture by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and occasionally applying a high-quality microcrystalline wax, avoiding direct sunlight and moisture exposure to protect the delicate veneer.
