This Edwardian trinket box is made of sterling silver with a bright silver finish. The circular piece displays an embossed cloud relief and a repousse figural scene on the lid, showing mythological figures surrounded by clouds. The body stands on three cabriole legs with carved animalistic paw feet, and a hinge connects the lid to the main body on a plain cylindrical wall. The box measures 4 cm high, 7 cm wide, and 7 cm deep. Suitable for use on a bedside table, the box is a practical container for small items such as rings and earrings. The interior includes a plush lining at the base. Full hallmarks appear on the base alongside a matching part mark on the lid, indicating manufacture by James and William Dixon in Chester in 1904. The condition includes slight undulations on the base rim.

Produced during the reign of King Edward VII between 1901 and 1910, an Edwardian silver trinket box is a small hallmarked container designed to hold jewellery, pins, or personal keepsakes on a vanity or dressing table.

These boxes were crafted from sterling silver bearing official British assay hallmarks. Decorative lids were typically worked using repousse and chasing techniques to create raised relief patterns from the reverse side of the metal sheet.

Authentic pieces carry a sequence of British hallmark stamps, including the lion passant for sterling purity, a date letter, a makers mark, and the town mark. For the Chester assay office, the town mark depicts a shield containing three wheat sheaves and a sword.

Place the box on a bedroom dressing table, a marble bathroom counter, or stacked upon decorative trays on a bedside table to add historical texture and metallic accenting to contemporary spaces.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and gently clean tarnished areas using a specialised silver polishing cloth. Avoid abrasive chemical polishes or immersing the item in liquid, as moisture can compromise hinges and internal linings.
