Scent bottles from the Victorian era were portable glass or metal containers used to hold liquid perfumes, smelling salts, or lavender waters, often carried in pocket reticules or displayed on dressing tables to combat unpleasant odours.

These items were typically produced using mould-blown or free-blown glass, frequently decorated with hand-applied enamel floral motifs, gilding, and metal mountings in brass, silver, or gold.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-cut pontil marks on the base, genuine wear consistent with age, hand-painted details with slight irregularities, and period-appropriate stopper fits rather than modern machine threading.

Display small collections of antique glass bottles on a mirrored tray atop a dressing table, side table, or mantelpiece where natural light can pass through the coloured glass.

Clean glass surfaces gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical solvents or submersion in water if there is fragile exterior gilding or paper labels.
