Caddy spoons emerged in the mid-18th century as precious dry tea leaves became highly valued, requiring specialised scoops to transfer them from caddies to teapots.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as stamping, casting, hand-engraving, and piercing by skilled silversmiths.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks stamped directly onto the metal, indicating the assay office, makers mark, and standard of silver purity.

Displaying antique silver within glass-fronted cabinets or framing a collection as wall art adds historical depth and metallic contrast to contemporary spaces.

Preservation requires storing silver in tarnish-resistant cloths, minimising exposure to humidity, and cleaning infrequently with a non-abrasive silver cloth.
