Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian era, spanning the reigns of the four King Georges from 1714 to 1830, saw tea transition from an expensive luxury to a social staple among the upper classes, necessitating secure and ornate containers known as tea caddies.

Authentic pieces from this period were typically fashioned from solid sterling silver or high-grade plate, often utilising hand-raising, chasing, engraving, and cast finials, complete with secure internal compartments or tight-fitting lids.

Authentication relies on examining hallmarks for the lion passant, makers marks, assay office symbols, and date letters, alongside observing the hand-engraved detailing, natural wear patterns, and traditional soldered construction methods.

This piece can be styled as a focal point on a sideboard or mantelpiece, contrasting its reflective metallic finish with organic textures like natural wood or ceramics to bridge historic craftsmanship with modern minimalism.

Preservation requires regular, gentle dusting with a soft microfibre cloth and occasional polishing with specialist non-abrasive silver cream, storing the item in a low-humidity environment to prevent tarnishing.
