Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Introduced to Europe in the seventeenth century, tea caddies were crafted as airtight vessels to store valuable loose tea leaves securely. Silver caddies served as functional storage while acting as status symbols within British households throughout the eighteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Edwardian tea caddies were primarily crafted from sterling silver or silver plate, often featuring surface decoration such as hand-engraved swags, neo-classical motifs, or repousse patterns, complete with fitted caps or stoppers.

Authentic British sterling silver items bear official assay office hallmarks stamped into the metal. These hallmarks typically include the lion passant for sterling purity, an assay town mark, a specific date letter, and an official makers mark.

An antique silver tea caddy can be styled on a sideboard, drinks trolley, or mantelpiece as a decorative accent, or repurposed on a dressing table tray to house small personal items or jewellery.

Sterling silver caddies should be cleaned gently using a soft microfibre cloth and a non-abrasive silver polish to remove oxidisation without wearing down delicate hand engravings or surface hallmarks.
