The Meiji period (1868-1912) marks an era when Japanese metalworkers opened to Western markets, producing highly detailed bronze, iron, and mixed-metal pieces featuring traditional landscapes and natural motifs.

These pieces are typically cast in bronze using traditional lost-wax or mold methods, often embellished with nunome-zogan (metal inlay) utilizing silver, gold, and copper to create pictorial designs.

Authentic items generally exhibit natural patination, hand-chased surface details, and occasionally artist signatures or foundry marks on the base, reflecting high levels of artisanal craftsmanship.

Position the vessel as a focal point on a mantelpiece, console, or bookshelf, allowing its metallic patina and contrasting inlay to introduce textural depth and historical character to contemporary spaces.

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid chemical polishes or water, which can damage the historical patina and delicate metal inlays.
