Description

A stunning pair of Art Deco bedside cabinets in birds eye maple and walnut. They were made in England, they date from the 1930’s.

They are beautifully made and are of superb quality. The birds eye maple has a gorgeous blonde colour tone with lovely grain patterns, contrasting nicely with the walnut banding on the top and lower edges. They stand on oval scrolled feet, with nickel and Bakelite handles. They are a useful size, not too imposing and with plenty of storage space.

We have had them recently stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is superb throughout, with some minor historical wear remaining beneath the polish here and there.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Art Deco furniture, prominent during the 1920s and 1930s, is characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, and the use of luxurious materials and exotic veneers.

These pieces typically feature solid timber frames finished with decorative wood veneers such as birds eye maple and walnut, often applied using traditional hand-polishing methods.

Authentic pieces usually display period-appropriate joinery, original hardware such as chrome or brass handles, and specific veneer grain patterns consistent with 1930s manufacturing techniques.

They can be paired with minimalist contemporary beds to create a striking contrast, or integrated into a vintage-inspired scheme alongside clean lines and neutral colour palettes.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent fading and cracking, and clean gently with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes.
