A pair of Victorian bedside cabinets rendered in mahogany with a warm brown colour and brass hardware. Dating to the late nineteenth century, these cabinets reflect traditional English country house style with a rectangular form, single doors enclosing storage space, and solid plinth bases. Details include three-quarter gallery tops, figured flame mahogany panels on the single panelled doors, and drop brass handles on the right and left sides. The timber shows rich grain patterns and polished surfaces throughout. Measuring 80 cm high, 38 cm wide, and 33 cm deep, these cabinets fit neatly alongside a bed or in compact living spaces to provide bedside surface area and concealed storage. They suit traditional or period bedrooms, guest rooms, or studies as companion pieces flanking a bed or positioned against a wall for lamps, books, and everyday items.

Historically known as pot cupboards or nightstands, bedside cabinets emerged in the 18th century to store nocturnal items discreetly in sleeping quarters before the advent of modern indoor plumbing.

Period bedside cabinets were typically constructed using solid mahogany framework and flame mahogany veneers over pine, featuring hand-dovetailed drawer joints, panelled doors, and solid brass fittings.

Authentic Victorian pieces feature flame mahogany veneers, hand-planed back panels, traditional joinery, natural age patina on the timber, and period-correct brass drop handles or locks.

Placing a matching pair symmetrically on either side of a contemporary bed frame introduces balance, warm timber tones, and functional enclosed storage to the room.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish occasionally along the direction of the wood grain, avoiding direct sunlight and proximity to radiators.
