This pair of nineteenth century French Empire style Medici vases is made of hard-paste porcelain with a multi-coloured glaze and extensive gold leaf finish. Each urn-shaped vessel stands on a square pedestal base and features a wide flared rim, turned pedestal foot, and gilded scroll handles with a white bearded man's face moulding beneath each handle. The bodies of the vases display hand-painted landscape scenes depicting rural buildings, rivers, and trees against a sky background. Wear and gilt loss are visible on the surfaces, particularly along the rims and handles. Each vase measures 25 cm high, 19 cm wide, and 19 cm deep. These decorative objects suit placement on a mantelpiece or side table in a living room or study to bring classic nineteenth-century French chateau style to an interior space.

A Medici vase is a bell-shaped crater urn form inspired by ancient Roman marble vessels, widely popularised across Europe during the Neoclassical and French Empire eras.

These vessels were slip-cast using hard-paste porcelain, hand-painted with detailed enamel scenes, and decorated with burnished gold leaf gilding before final kiln firing.

Authentic examples typically feature precise hand-painted topographical or architectural vignettes, natural surface wear to high-contact gilded areas, heavy square pedestal bases, and occasional painter marks underneath.

Position the pair symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or console table to establish structural symmetry and classical balance within contemporary living spaces.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth or dry soft-bristled brush, avoiding water immersion, liquid detergents, or abrasive polishes that can strip delicate gold leaf decoration.
