The Georgian design style encompasses the periods of the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George, spanning from 1714 to 1830, characterised by a focus on symmetry, classical proportions, and the introduction of rich timbers such as mahogany.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly utilised dense hardwoods like mahogany, often incorporating fine veneers such as flame mahogany on surfaces, joined together with traditional dovetail joinery and secured with brass hardware.

Authentication involves examining the timber grain, hand-cut dovetail joints, original hardware or fixing holes, and signs of hand-tooling on secondary woods such as oak or pine used in the interior framing.

Pairing historical timber furniture with contemporary minimalist surroundings creates a striking contrast, allowing the rich grain and traditional craftsmanship to serve as a focal point within a neutral bedroom scheme.

Preservation requires keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent warping and cracking, applying occasional applications of high-grade beeswax, and dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
