Georgian opaque twist wine glasses feature stems enclosing white or coloured enamel glass threads, typically twisted into lace or gauze patterns, produced predominantly during the mid-to-late 18th century following the 1745 Glass Excise Act.

These glasses were crafted using lead glass, also known as flint glass, combined with opaque white or coloured enamel glass rods manipulated inside the stem during the blowing and drawing process.

Authenticity is assessed by examining manufacturing characteristics such as pontil marks on the base, minor surface wear, tool marks, lead content weight, and the precise formation of the internal enamel twist within the drawn stem.

An antique glass can be displayed singly or in a small curated grouping within a lighted cabinet, on an open shelving unit, or as a focal point on a sideboard to add historical texture to a room.

Antique glass should be washed strictly by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes, and dried carefully with a soft lint-free cloth to prevent accidental damage.
