Dutch Delftware refers to tin-glazed earthenware manufactured in the Netherlands, primarily in and around Delft, from the 16th century onwards, heavily inspired by imported Chinese porcelain.

These pieces are crafted from buff-coloured earthenware clay, coated with an opaque white tin-oxide glaze, and hand-painted with metallic oxide pigments before receiving a clear lead glaze overcoat.

Authentic pieces often exhibit characteristic glaze fritting along the rims, slight surface undulations from hand-shaping, hand-painted underglaze motifs, and porous clay bodies on the unglazed footrings.

These colourful ceramic pieces can be mounted on walls as part of a gallery display, or mounted on specialist display stands to add historic character to modern shelving and mantelpieces.

Antique ceramics should be kept away from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, cleaned only with a dry or barely damp soft cloth, and never submerged in water or put in a dishwasher.
