Fish servers became popular during the Victorian era as specialized cutlery was developed for multi-course formal dining, particularly for serving fish dishes.

They are typically crafted from solid sterling silver, often featuring engraved blades and sometimes handles made of bone, ivory, or mother-of-pearl.

Authenticity is verified by checking for British hallmarks stamped into the metal, which indicate the makers mark, assay office, and year of production.

Antique silverware can be mixed with modern minimalist dinnerware to create a layered, eclectic tablescape that contrasts historical craftsmanship with clean lines.

Antique silver should be washed gently in warm soapy water using a soft cloth and polished occasionally with a specialized silver cloth to maintain its finish without damaging the engravings.
