Victorian glass carafes are typically characterised by intricate wheel-cut or acid-etched floral and geometric motifs, reflecting the ornate decorative arts of the nineteenth century.

These pieces were commonly crafted from lead crystal or soda-lime glass, shaped using traditional free-blowing or mould-blowing techniques, followed by hand-engraving or acid-etching.

Authentic pieces often exhibit minor surface wear, pontil marks on the base from hand-finished blowing, and slight irregularities inherent to period manufacturing processes.

An antique glass carafe can be utilised as a functional dining table centrepiece or displayed on open shelving to introduce historical texture and transparent lightness into contemporary spaces.

Antique glass should be washed by hand using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding harsh scrubbing or ultrasonic cleaners to protect delicate etched surfaces.
