Caddy spoons emerged in the mid-18th century as tea became an increasingly precious commodity in British households, requiring specialised utensils for portioning dried leaves from a tea caddy.

These spoons were predominantly crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as stamping, casting, and hand-engraving, often featuring intricate pierced work or bright-cut decoration by skilled silversmiths.

Authentic pieces bear clear British hallmarks, typically including a makers mark, standard mark, town mark indicating the assay office such as Birmingham or London, and a date letter corresponding to the Georgian period.

Antique silver items can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, utilised as tabletop decorative accents, or incorporated into contemporary table settings to introduce historical depth and metallic contrast.

Preservation requires storing silver in tarnish-resistant cloths, minimising exposure to humidity, and cleaning infrequently using a professional non-abrasive silver polish to protect the original hallmarks and surface detail.
