This Victorian French Rococo Revival armoire is a large freestanding wardrobe made from warm brown burr walnut with gilded bronze and ormolu mounts, standing 230 cm high, 152 cm wide, and 64 cm deep. The piece has a swan-neck scrolled pediment featuring a central cast ormolu mask, twin doors with mirror-matched burr walnut veneer panels, rococo brass escutcheons, corner ormolu mounts, a bow-front base, and short cabriole legs with ormolu sabots. Inside, the wardrobe provides storage with hanging space on one side and solid walnut shelves on the other. Placed in a bedroom or dressing room, the armoire holds clothing and linens while serving as a prominent storage unit.

A French burr walnut armoire is a tall, freestanding wardrobe crafted using highly figured veneer cut from walnut tree burls, frequently featuring Rococo-inspired curves, panelled doors, and cast gilt-bronze mounts.

These pieces generally utilise a solid hardwood or softwood carcass covered in decorative burr walnut veneers, accented with chased gilt-bronze (ormolu) mounts, hinges, and escutcheons.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-cut joinery, hand-planed timber backboards, natural patination on untinned interior hardware, and original casting marks on the undersides of decorative mounts.

Designers frequently position a large armoire as a focal point in a primary bedroom or dressing area, balancing its rich timber tones against plain plaster walls and muted modern textiles.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a dry cloth and applying natural beeswax sparingly, while keeping gilded metal mounts free from abrasive cleaners to protect the original finish.
