A caddy spoon is a small scoop specifically designed to measure dry tea leaves from a caddy into a teapot, becoming popular during the Georgian period when tea was an expensive commodity.

They were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, often featuring handles made from mother-of-pearl, ivory, or bone to prevent heat transfer and add decorative contrast.

Authentic pieces feature struck punch marks indicating the assay office, standard mark, date letter, and makers mark, with Birmingham and Sheffield being prominent centres for silversmithing.

These small collectable items are traditionally displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, inside antique tea caddies, or arranged on small trays as part of a curated tabletop vignette.

They should be cleaned sparingly using a specialist non-abrasive silver cloth, avoiding harsh chemical dips, and kept away from direct moisture to protect organic elements like mother-of-pearl.
