This Georgian sterling silver caddy spoon presents a scalloped shell-form bowl and a tapered handle bearing bright-cut engraving and dotted linear motifs. Hallmarked for 1788 in London by silversmiths Samuel Godbehere and Edward Wigan, the piece exhibits clear fluting, legible maker marks, and light surface wear consistent with age, use, and routine polishing. The metallic silver surface catches the light across the fluted ridges of the bowl and the detailed patterns of the handle. Measuring 9 cm high, the spoon has a compact form suited for domestic service. Placed upon a sideboard top or used within an English country house interior, the item functions as a practical accessory for tea, sugar, or spices, bringing period character to a tabletop display while retaining its original utility as a small serving scoop for everyday hospitality.

A caddy spoon is a short-handled spoon designed specifically for measuring loose tea leaves from a tea caddy into a teapot, becoming widely popular in Britain during the late 18th century.

These utensils were typically fashioned from sterling silver, employing hand-engraving, bright-cutting, and press-forming techniques to create detailed fluted shell bowls and patterned stems.

Authentic items feature complete British hallmark sequences, including the makers mark, sovereigns head duty mark, lion passant for sterling purity, and a date letter corresponding to the period.

Small silver tea scoops can be displayed under small glass cloches, arranged on decorative trays alongside barware, or integrated into a loose-leaf tea station on a dining sideboard.

Clean silver items gently using a soft cotton cloth and specialised, non-abrasive silver polish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that strip away natural patina and fine engraved details.
