Nineteenth century French vanity items typically combined fine metals such as silver gilt with artisanal coloured glass, reflecting the high craftsmanship and luxury focus of the period.

Traditional materials included blown or moulded glass, often incorporating uranium for colour, paired with precious metal mounts in silver, gold, or gilt brass.

Authentic nineteenth century uranium glass exhibits a distinct yellow-green fluorescence under ultraviolet light due to the uranium oxide content used in the glass-making batch.

Antique glass items can be displayed on mirrored vanity trays, within glass-fronted cabinets, or positioned near natural light sources to highlight their translucency and colour.

Preservation involves keeping the glass away from direct sunlight, avoiding abrasive cleaning agents on the metal mounts, and handling them carefully to protect fragile painted details.
