Mary Gregory glass refers to glassware decorated with white enamel silhouettes of children, usually set amidst foliage or natural scenes. This style gained immense popularity during the late Victorian era, spanning roughly from the 1870s to the early 1900s.

These pieces were typically mouth-blown from coloured glass and hand-painted using white glass enamel, often with subtle flesh tones or gold highlights added to the details. The enamelled design was then fired to bond it permanently to the glass body.

Authentic pieces usually feature raised, slightly textured white enamel work that shows signs of age, such as minor wear or oxidation. The glass itself should exhibit characteristics of nineteenth-century production, such as pontil marks on the base and small bubbles trapped within the metal.

Small glassware objects can be displayed grouped in illuminated cabinets, placed on mantelpieces to catch the light, or utilised as distinctive desktop vessels. Their coloured transparency adds visual depth and a touch of heritage contrast to contemporary minimalist schemes.

Clean antique glass gently by hand using lukewarm water and mild, non-abrasive soap, avoiding harsh chemicals or immersion in hot water. Always dry thoroughly with a soft lint-free cloth and keep away from prolonged direct sunlight to prevent colour fading.
