Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early nineteenth-century Austrian folk art wall cabinet takes the form of a painted pine hanging corner cupboard with polychrome decoration. The exterior displays a rustic multicolour scheme featuring hand-painted floral panels on the single door, fluted pilasters, and a lower drawer fitted with a central wooden pull, alongside an iron keyhole escutcheon and weathered paint wear with visible distressing. The timber structure includes moulded cornices, turned side columns, and shaped base details. Measuring 105 cm high, 64 cm wide, and 32 cm deep, the piece mounts easily on the wall to provide functional storage within a narrow kitchen, hallway, or compact dining corner. Homeowners use this charming rustic farmhouse cabinet to store everyday pantry items, glassware, or decorative ceramics while adding historical character to empty corner wall spaces.

FAQs

An Austrian painted hanging cupboard is a traditional piece of regional folk art furniture, historically crafted in Alpine rural communities during the 18th and 19th centuries. These wall-mounted units were made from local softwoods and decorated with colourful hand-painted motifs, such as florals, architectural arches, or stylized foliage.

Folk art wall cupboards were predominantly constructed from softwoods like pine, joined with hand-cut dovetails, wooden pegs, and hand-forged iron hardware. The decorative finish was achieved using tempera or milk paints, which were often sealed with oil or natural beeswax.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural surface wear consistent with age, particularly around handles, keyholes, and corner edges, revealing earlier paint coats or bare timber. Original hand-forged iron fitments, historic square nails, and fine craquelure in the paint layer further indicate original period origin.

These textured, colourful pieces serve as effective functional wall art in contemporary spaces, offering visual contrast against neutral or plaster walls. Mount the cabinet at eye level in a hallway, cloakroom, or kitchen alcove to provide both historical character and practical storage.

Gently dust the surface using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or natural bristle brush, avoiding liquid cleaners or chemical solvents that could remove delicate pigments. Keep the cabinet in a environment with stable humidity levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent paint flaking.
