Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Originating in earlier centuries and refined in the 18th century, a livery cupboard was traditionally designed to store linens, clothing, or household provisions. During the Georgian era, these pieces developed into substantial timber storage units featuring a panelled upper cupboard mounted over a chest of drawers.

Georgian cabinetmakers predominantly used native British hardwoods such as oak and elm, joining components with traditional mortise and tenon timber pegs. Internal drawer construction commonly features hand-cut dovetail joints and solid timber linings.

Authentic Georgian cupboards exhibit hand-planed timber surfaces, irregular drawer construction, and hand-cut dovetail joints. Key indicators include original iron locks, turned wood handles, and natural shrinkage lines across wide solid backboards.

A tall oak cupboard serves as a functional focal point in a hallway, dining space, or bedroom, offering ample concealed storage. Combining dark timber surfaces with contemporary neutral wall shades and woven natural textiles creates a balanced, timeless aesthetic.

Maintain native hardwood furniture by applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to protect the timber and preserve its natural patina. Position the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping or cracking.
