FAQs

The rummer emerged in the late 18th century as a sturdy drinking vessel primarily used for serving rum, ale, or wine in homes and taverns.

These pieces were typically handblown using lead glass or flint glass, often featuring faceted or fluted bowls resting on short stems and circular feet.

Authentic pieces often exhibit pontil marks on the base, minor bubbles or striations within the glass matrix, and weight consistent with lead content from the period.

Displaying historical glassware on open shelving, within glazed cabinets, or using them as small floral vessels adds textural interest and historical contrast to modern spaces.

Wash by hand using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and harsh abrasives to protect the delicate surface patina.
