We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A barrister bookcase, also known as a lawyers bookcase, is a modular type of furniture featuring glass-fronted tiers that lift and slide into the cabinet. Originally developed in the late 19th century, it was designed to protect law books from dust and moisture while allowing professionals to easily transport their libraries between offices.

Authentic period pieces are traditionally constructed from solid oak, mahogany, or walnut, often featuring quarter-sawn oak with prominent medullary rays. The stacking modular design uses internal metal mechanisms or wooden tracks to coordinate the upward-swinging glass doors.

Authentication involves examining the hardware for makers stamps, checking for period-appropriate tongue-and-groove joinery, and inspecting the glass for age-related imperfections such as bubbles and waviness. Genuine pieces typically feature individual modular sections that stack independently on top of a base plinth.

This type of furniture serves as a sophisticated focal point in a study, home office, or living room, offering practical vertical storage. Pairing the warm timber tones with contemporary seating and minimalist decor creates a balanced contrast between old and new design elements.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels to prevent the wood from warping and the glue from drying out. Clean the timber periodically with a microfibre cloth and high-quality beeswax, avoiding harsh chemical sprays and direct sunlight.
