Bohemian cased glass, originating in the Central European region during the nineteenth century, is characterised by multiple layers of differently coloured glass fused together, often featuring intricate hand-cut panels that reveal the contrasting underlayer.

These pieces are traditionally crafted from lead crystal or potash glass, utilizing a cased or overlay technique where a layer of coloured glass is applied over clear or contrasting glass before being hand-cut and polished.

Authentic items typically display hand-cut facets with slight irregularities, high optical clarity, heavy weight due to lead content, and polished pontil marks on the base indicating manual production methods.

Position the piece near a natural light source such as a window sill or dressing table to accentuate the rich colour and refractive qualities of the cut glass against contemporary neutral surfaces.

Clean the item using lukewarm water and mild dish soap with a soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, or submerging pieces with original gilt highlights for extended periods.
