Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Victorian gentleman's linen press storage cupboard stands as a practical piece in warm brown mahogany. Flame mahogany veneer covers the exterior surfaces, accented by brass hardware on the locking doors and a secret top drawer. The construction incorporates field panelled doors, recessed side panels on the flanks, and a moulded top cornice above a plinth base. Later shelves occupy the interior space behind the doors, while signs of an old plaque remain on the pull-out drawer alongside original back boards and a replacement door locking device. The dimensions measure 134 cm high, 94 cm wide, and 46 cm deep. This storage cupboard suits placement in a gentleman's library or study to organise garments, linens, or paperwork while adding period character to the interior layout.

FAQs

A linen press is a traditional piece of storage furniture comprising a cabinet with double doors, historically used to store household linens, sheets, and clothing prior to modern fitted wardrobes.

These presses were predominantly constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, flame mahogany veneers, and field-panelled doors.

Authentic pieces feature period-appropriate indicators of age, including hand-planed wood surfaces, original brass hinges or locks, cast brass escutcheons, and natural timber shrinkage along joints.

A mahogany linen press can be incorporated into a modern bedroom, hallway, or dining room as statement storage, balancing contemporary neutral decor with warm wood tones.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the cabinet positioned away from direct radiator heat and direct sunlight.
