Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian cupboard on chest stands at 223 cm high, 123 cm wide, with a base depth of 53 cm and a top depth of 30 cm. The piece consists of an upper section with double panelled cupboard doors and a lower section with two short over three long drawers. Constructed from mahogany, it displays rich brown flame mahogany veneer alongside boxwood stringing and bone escutcheons. The upper section features a swan-neck cresting with scrolls, while the entire cabinet rests on turned bun feet and uses dark wooden knob handles. In a home today, this substantial storage unit suits a hallway, living room, or bedroom for linen and everyday items. The substantial timber construction and traditional configuration provide generous capacity for folded garments, household linens, or books. The classical lines and warm timber tones integrate easily into traditional interiors, complementing period properties or country house aesthetics while offering practical vertical storage.

FAQs

A Georgian cupboard on chest, closely related to a linen press or clothes press, is an 18th or early 19th-century storage piece featuring an upper double-door cupboard section positioned over a lower chest of drawers.

These pieces typically feature solid oak or pine secondary timbers, hand-cut dovetail joints, turned handles, and decorative flame mahogany veneers highlighted with delicate boxwood or ebony string inlay.

Authentic Georgian examples display hand-sawn timber marks, slightly irregular drawer dovetails, original lock mechanisms, hand-carved pediment details, and evidence of genuine timber shrinkage over time.

Position the piece as a focal point in a master bedroom, hallway, or dining area, pairing its rich wood tones with neutral wall colours and contemporary minimalist lighting or ceramics.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and prolonged sunlight, dust regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the original finish.
