Art Deco opalescent glass gained prominence during the interwar period, championed by master glassmakers in France who utilised chemical compounds to create milky, translucent effects that changed colour in shifting light.

These pieces are typically crafted from heavy, high-lead or pressed soda-lime glass, shaped using metal moulds, and finished with acid-etching, staining, or frosting to accentuate high-relief surface details.

Authenticity is verified by examining the crispness of the moulded relief, the quality of the satin-finish frosting, and the presence of period-correct engraved, moulded, or sandblasted signatures on the base.

Place the vessel on a reflective surface such as a polished wood sideboard or a dark marble mantelpiece, allowing natural light to highlight the translucent qualities and sculptural surface motifs.

Clean the piece gently using lukewarm water and a mild, non-abrasive detergent with a soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals, ultrasonic cleaners, or abrasive brushes that could damage the delicate frosted finish.
