Dutch Delftware originated in the city of Delft and surrounding areas in the Netherlands during the 16th century, heavily influenced by imported Chinese porcelain traded by the Dutch East India Company.

These plates are typically made from buff-coloured earthenware clay covered in an opaque tin-lead glaze, which creates a white surface suitable for hand-painted mineral pigments.

Authentic pieces often show characteristic crazing, minor kiln firing flaws, hand-painted brushwork with slight variations, and an earthenware body visible where the glaze has chipped on the rim or base.

They can be displayed on wall plate racks, mounted securely on walls as art pieces, or arranged on a dresser to add historical texture and colour to a modern living space.

Antique pottery should be kept away from direct sunlight, hand-washed gently with mild soap when necessary without soaking, and displayed in stable environmental conditions away from moisture.
