Jacobean furniture, prominent during the 17th century, is characterised by heavy rectilinear forms, dark oak construction, and intricate geometric or floral carved motifs such as guilloche and linenfold.

These pieces were traditionally crafted from solid English oak, utilising frame-and-panel construction joined with wooden pegs and mortise and tenon joints to accommodate natural wood movement.

Authenticity is assessed by examining tool marks, hand-cut joints, patination consistent with age, shrinkage splits, and the use of pit-sawn boards rather than modern machine-cut timber.

Historic wooden pieces anchor modern spaces by introducing texture and warmth; they contrast effectively against neutral plaster walls, minimalist lines, and contemporary textiles.

Preserve the finish by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and periodically applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber without attracting dirt or degrading the historic patina.
