FAQs

18th-century Welsh furniture is characterised by robust construction, practical utility, and regional craftsmanship, often featuring local native timbers like oak and incorporating straightforward joinery with subtle decorative details.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid native timber, predominantly oak, utilizing traditional joinery methods such as mortise and tenon frames, hand-cut dovetails for drawers, and pegged joints rather than modern fasteners.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate tool marks, hand-carved or turned details, natural patination from age and use, hand-forged or early iron hardware, and timber shrinkage consistent with centuries of seasoning.

An antique oak cupboard serves as a grounding focal point in contemporary spaces, pairing well with neutral plaster walls, minimalist decor, and soft textiles to balance its substantial visual weight and rich grain.

Preserve antique oak by maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying a traditional beeswax polish to nourish the timber.
