Edwardian design, spanning the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, is characterised by lighter, more refined aesthetics often influenced by neoclassical and art nouveau motifs, moving away from heavy Victorian ornamentation.

These jars typically combine blown or moulded glass, such as cranberry or cut glass, with sterling silver lids manufactured using traditional silversmithing techniques like stamping, chasing, and embossing.

Authentic pieces feature clear British hallmarks stamped on the silver component, indicating the assay office, makers mark, and date letter corresponding to the early 20th century, alongside characteristic weight and hand-finished details in the glass.

Such decorative items function effectively as accent pieces on a bedroom dressing table, a bathroom shelf, or a living room mantelpiece, adding a touch of historical colour and metallic contrast to contemporary schemes.

The glass can be washed gently with lukewarm soapy water, while the silver lid requires non-abrasive silver polish applied sparingly with a soft cloth to preserve the hallmarks and chased details without causing damage.
