Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Kutani porcelain originates from the Ishikawa prefecture in Japan, renowned for its overglaze enamels and detailed pictorial designs. Emerging in the seventeenth century and revived during the nineteenth century, this ceramic style frequently depicts landscapes, figures, and natural flora.

Traditional Kutani pieces are crafted from hard-paste porcelain clay and fired at elevated temperatures. Craftspeople apply overglaze enamels in rich mineral shadestypically red, yellow, green, purple, and dark bluealongside gold leaf detailing prior to a secondary lower-temperature firing.

Authentic Meiji era Kutani ceramics frequently display artist or workshop marks on the base, often rendered in iron-red enamel or gold. Look for hand-painted brushwork with subtle natural variations, layered enamel application, and light wear on the unglazed foot rim.

Large decorative ceramics function as focal points when positioned on sideboards, entryway consoles, or mantelpieces. Placing them against neutral backdrops or contrasting dark timber allows the painted artwork and distinct silhouette to draw visual focus.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft-bristled brush. Avoid immersing porcelain with gilded or enamel embellishments in water, and never use abrasive detergents or chemical cleaners that could degrade surface pigments.
