Royal Worcester was established in 1751 in Worcester, England, becoming famous for high-grade bone china and porcelain. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the factory produced ornate lidded urns decorated with detailed landscape paintings and classical gilded borders.

These pieces were slip-cast or mould-formed using soft-paste or bone china clay before undergoing multiple firings. Artisans applied cobalt blue glazes, hand-painted polychrome enamel scenes, and finished the urns with burnished gold leaf gilding.

Authentic pieces decorated by artists of the Stinton family feature a distinct painterly technique depicting cattle or highland sheep, accompanied by a small painted signature within the scene. Base markings usually include the printed Royal Worcester factory mark, date codes, and shape numbers.
