Regency secretaire bookcases produced between approximately 1810 and 1830 are defined by classical proportions, refined flame mahogany veneers, Gothic arch or geometric astragal glazing, and functional dual-purpose design incorporating a concealed pull-down writing desk.

These cabinets were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany and decorated with high-grade flame mahogany veneers. They feature hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, brass drop handles or turn-knobs, and hand-blown glass panes secured by timber glazing bars.

Authentic pieces feature signs of period craftsmanship, including hand-sawn drawer linings, irregularities in early glass panes, original brass locks, and natural oxidation or colour variation on the unfinished rear timber panels.
