A fine Rosewood mantel clock by the well know makers Paul Garnier and Henry Marc. It’s difficult to explain why this clock is so rare, but we will try. Paul Garnier invented a type of escapement for his clocks which allowed the clocks to be pendulum free. This escapement is called the Chaff Cutter, two plane escapement and was in use on most of the early carriage clocks he made. There are very few clocks which have survived with the Chaff Cutter intact. What’s lovely about this particular clock is the small viewing glass to the top, essentially showing off his invention. The ''blanc roulant'' was supplied to P.G. by Henry Marc. A blanc roulant is a movement sold to a clockmaker to finish with his or her escapement of choice. The clock is quite sall and constructed of Rosewood with fine boxwood inlays and marquetry work. The dial is a mellowed gold colour and the hands are the original and quite unique.
