Small, Rare, English Mahogany, Mantel/bracket Clock. Circa 1825.

19th century
Description

A late Regency period exquisite little clock in superb condition.

The eight day duration fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement, shouldered plates and offset winding.

Behind just a 4” diameter bowed and painted iron dial with it’s original cream coloured base paint, outer minute track and inner Roman numerals. Also having it's original brass edge protection ring. The matching steel hands being of ‘open moon’ style and behind a cast brass and locking bezel with snapped-in bowed glass.

Contained in a mahogany case with low-arch top and the front being inlaid with Grecian style brass. The arch is above a brass strung ebony block moulding to three sides. The portion below the dial is broken with a double reeded moulding. The short, straight and proud plinth is also inlaid to the front and stands upon four brass ball feet. The sides are plain and the back has a rectangular glazed and locking door.

*This is one of the most original and prettiest of this kind of ‘bracket clock’ I have ever seen. The small size is extremely rare.

Dimensions: 10 3/8" high x 6 3/4" wide x 4 1/4" deep.

Condition: The movement is running perfectly and keeping time. It has been maintained but some time ago and would benefit from an overhaul. The pendulum transit locking knob is missing however, I have turned a new one and I deem the movement is 'safe to run'. The dial is excellent with expected signs of age and touching up on the inking. The bezel and glass are also excellent, and the lock works nicely. The case is restored but small historic signs of age have been left. It is sound, of good colour and the back door is excellent and locks properly.

Price: The price is for the clock in its present and working condition. The cost and timescales for any work required by the purchaser and can be advised upon enquiry.
