Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chinoiserie brass-clad chests originated as trade items produced in East Asia during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, tailored for European export. They combined traditional Western storage forms with decorative Asian motifs, serving both practical transport needs and exotic aesthetic tastes.

These trunks are constructed with solid camphor wood interiors, valued for their natural insect-repelling properties and aromatic scent. The exterior is wrapped in thin sheets of brass, hand-embossed or chased with decorative relief scenes, and secured with small brass tacks.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-worked repousse detailing rather than machine-stamped patterns, along with hand-cut tacks and irregular brass joints. The interior should feature unpainted, naturally aged camphor wood with visible hand-planing marks and an enduring aromatic scent.

A brass-clad coffer functions effectively as a central statement piece, such as a low coffee table, or placed at the foot of a bed for secondary storage. Its warm metallic finish contrasts well against contemporary neutral textiles and structured architectural furniture.

Dust the brass exterior regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding abrasive metal polishes that remove natural patination. Keep the timber interior clean and free from liquid cleaners to preserve the natural grain and oil content of the camphor wood.
