We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

French marquetry developed during the 17th and 18th centuries, particularly under the reign of Louis XIV and Louis XV, where master cabinetmakers utilised finely cut veneers to create intricate pictorial and geometric designs on furniture surfaces.

These pieces typically feature a carcase of oak or pine overlaid with diverse exotic and native wood veneers such as walnut, rosewood, and fruitwood, accented with cast bronze or ormolu mounts and topped with marble.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-sawn veneer thicknesses, traditional animal hide glues, and signs of age-related oxidisation and wear within the secondary woods and interior drawer linings.

This piece can serve as a striking bedside table or a focal accent in a living room, contrasting cleanly against neutral walls to highlight the intricate wood grain and metallic details.

Maintain the wood by applying microcrystalline wax sparingly, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent veneer fading, and keeping the piece away from extreme temperature fluctuations that cause timber to crack.
