Large Tavern Clock in Flame Mahogany by Smith & Sons of Walton

19th century
Description

A tavern drop dial wall clock in a solid, heavy, flame mahogany case with a fully restored movement by Smith & Sons of Walton dating the clock 1865-1890.

The Movement

An an eight-day time and hour strike which sounds the number at each hour on a top bellTthis movement has two large weights to drive it over eight days and has been fully restored and a new gut added by myself so is running strongly over the eight days via the original pendulum.

The case

Stands at 62" top to toe with a width of 23” at the widest point and a depth of 10”. It is made of solid flame mahogany and comes with the original front glass door, which slides off. The case has been well waxed over the years and offered in great condition, almost wet to look at.

.

The Dial

14" in steel, the dial is 100% original and has never been touched up. Now showing a little sign of age but still very clear, showing the maker's name Smith & Sons of Walton. The original hands are still present..

These clocks are becoming increasingly desirable and as such prices are rising to match demand, making this clock a very sound investment. A large piece of top quality; this will make a bold and impressive statement in any home.

If you require any further information, please just ask. I am happy to send more photographs or can video the clock running, if desired. You are also very welcome to come and view the clock in person.

As with all my clocks, this one is sold with a ‘back-to-base’ 3-month guarantee. I also offer future clock servicing, which I carry out personally at a heavily discounted rate.

This item can be delivered by my usual driver anywhere in the UK. Prices for this service start at £65 and are dependant on the location of the purchaser.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
