A Very Original Miniature Hook And Spike Lantern Clock By Martin, London. Circa 1745.
Status:This item has been sold Sold by:M. C. Taylor
This is a very pretty and almost totally original little chamber clock.
The rope driven, posted framed 30 hour duration movement with its original Verge escapement and short attached pendulum. The alarum train is set inside the movement to the backplate with the hammer verge arbor rising up through the top plate to sound on the bell internally. The frame is only 3 1/4'' square x 4'' high.
The break-arch brass dial measures 5'' wide x 6 3/4'' high and has a silvered chapter ring with outer Arabic 5''s, a divided minute track and inner Roman hour numerals. The matted centre has the alarum setting disc with protrusions around its perimeter and the hours indicated with Arabic numerals. The corners have ''plumed head'' and floral cast spandrels and the arch has ''punch head'' and floral spandrels flanking the silvered maker''s nameplate stating ''Martin'' (of) ''London''. The blued steel hands are pierced the hour of which has a setting tail against the alarum disc.
This is a tiny ...and exquisite little clock that is totally original. It is rare insomuch that it was made with two hands and is so original. Unusually, even the doors are original. It is certainly worthy of a collection.
This clock is in good condition throughout with an aged appearance. There are only small signs of wear and it is working well.
The price is for the clock in its present and working condition. A price and timescale for any work required by the purchaser can be advised upon enquiry.
