Chalfont Clocks has dated this piece to the 1950s.
In 1938 Wempe bought the Hamburger Chronometerwerke GmbH from shipbuilders based in Hamburg and Bremen. This company, which had been founded in 1905, produced highly precise marine chronometers under the management of the renowned chronometer maker Ferdinand Denker. Through this purchase, Wempe lays the foundations of the company’s own internationally competitive chronometer workshop, which also serves as a training facility for talented watchmakers.

This Chronometer was made in the Wempe Chronometerwerke Workshop to there exacting standards and is a lovely example of a mid century working marine chronometer, having last been used on a Greek boat the ‘Delicat’ as recorded in the label inside the case.
