An early and very good example of a fusee dial clock.
The eight day duration, 4 knopped pillar, gut fusee movement with its original verge escapement and attached pendulum. Also having tapered plates, back cock apron and a pendulum hook to the backplate.
Behind a 12'' diameter, silvered and engraved, brass dial with outer, Arabic 5''s, minute track with triangular hour markings, short Roman hour numerals and an inner circle. The centre bearing the maker''s name of ''WILD'' above centre in shaded capitals and ''LONDON'' in a lower curved cartouche, that is surrounded with floral decoration. The engraving is superbly executed and the blued steel pierced hands are absolutely traditional.
Contained in a fine mahogany ''Salt-box'' case. The dial surround is recessed to flush-fit the dial and the edge is concave moulded in ''Sheraton'' style. The matching wooden bezel is also mahogany with a conforming edge and is glazed and hinged. The saltbox back retains its top and bottom protru
...sions and has side and bottom access doors that have thin strips to the edges.
These clocks are extremely rare and because of their age, seldom survive in this condition also, most are ex-English Cartel clocks that became so unpopular that they had later cases made in dial clock style. This clock is exceptionally original.
The movement is in working order and complete however, I would strongly recommend that it is overhauled especially on such a rare and good example as this. The dial is fine and appears to have recently been rewaxed and silvered. The case is superb throughout, all of the joints and fixings are fine and it has an excellent appearance.
The price is for the clock in its present and working condition. We do however recommend that this item be fully overhauled, the price of the clock then being £6750.
